13 Foods I Love

You know, there are two types of people on earth. One – they will eat to survive. Two – they survive to eat.

I guess the title of this post already reveals which category I am in. Ok, let’s dive right in on my favourite food! 13 of them. Woo hoo!

Thursday Thirteen: 13 Foods I Love

1. Japanese cuisine. Everything about it. I can already foresee myself putting on a few kilos if I were to go to Japan for a week. Oh, that fresh sashimi…

2. Eggs. This is probably the only food that I love, no matter how it’s cooked. Even uncooked. ;p

3. Thai food. I like spicy food. Used to love, but learning how it will affect my sensitive throat, I have to step back and cut down on the chilli. But, that doesn’t stop me from the spicy and sour lethal combination in Thai cuisine! Tom yam soup, green curry, Thai fishcakes! Yummy…

4. Fruits. At one time in my life, I had to eat two portions of fruit daily. It is a MUST. They not only help to ease my hard bowels, fruits are really delicious whether eaten in hot or cold weather. I remembered there was once when I was working in Hong Kong and I was literally craving for some fruits, after not eating them for 2 days. But lately I have been lazy in eating fruits. I need to buck up! My favourite(s)? Cherries, strawberries, bananas, mangoes, grapes, prunes and so many!

5. Fishballs. Been my favourite since I was little. We used to stay in shophouses, and our next-door neighbour was a coffee shop, with one stall selling what? Fish ball noodles! My dad would order that every weekend morning, and he would leave all the fishballs for me to eat. Hmm… I like them springy…. (I’m waiting for Stuart to buy me fishball soup as supper now as I’m writing this post ha! Waiting waiting…)

6. Hot tea. What used to be something I hate and won’t touch actually made it to this list. The turning point was a train ride from Perth to Melbourne, Australia many years back. My sister taught me how to enjoy tea, and I got hooked to it since. Now, I enjoy having a cuppa when I need to relax, or if I just want something hot to warm my stomach.

7. Abalone. I know, this is an expensive item, but I really love this. During our CNY reunion dinner, practically most of this dish will be wiped clean by me, while my family will only take some. But, that’s the only one I love! I don’t eat sea cucumber, for example. So, I guess I don’t have to feel so guilty gulping down most of the abalone then :p

8. Chwee kueh. Oh, I love the turnips too. Need to have lots of them each time I order. But, when they are too oily, it does affect my appetite.

9. Goreng pisang. Well, what can I say? One of my favourite fruit is banana, remember? How can I not like it being deep fried too?

10.  Shun kueh. With lots of the sweet black sauce. I can eat 3 in one go. The normal size ones, not mini!

11. Char siew bun. When I was in my primary school, I would run to this shop behind my home and buy 3 char siew buns every Sunday morning. Then I will sit down, savour them slowly for my breakfast while reading a novel. Aw, what an enjoyable and relaxing time that was.

12. Fried rice. For unknown reasons, my stomach goes weak at the notice of this item in the menu. Not that I’ll order it every time, but I will always have the urge to. No-carbo diet? Erh, maybe another time ya. I still want my big bowl of fried rice. And with lots of pepper to go with!

13. Home-cooked food. Nothing beats having my meal at home, even if it’s only fried eggs (my mum’s specialty!) with rice.

I suppose, it’s not a very good idea to be writing about our favourite food late at night after all.

Haha, chocolates. Yes they are my favourites too, and dark bitter ones too, if I were to have them. Yes, they are sinful, that’s why I’m doing my best to get them out of the list haha… Oh, why do you have to remind me dear?
