13 Things I Loved Once And Missed Now
10 Jan 2008
Guilty as charged for not religiously following through the Thursday Thirteen series every Thursday, I’m going to reveal some bits and pieces of my inner life in this 127th edition of this popular internet meme.
These are the thirteen things that I once loved, still do and totally missed.

1. The sound of flipping a really flimsy writing paper. The type where you can only write on one side as the pencil ink would show on the reverse.
2. Cartoons. Carebears, Alvin and the Chipmunks (yes, I was one of the fans rushing to catch the movie!), Smurfs and E.T
3. Crazy reading. Staying up whole day and night just to finish that novel, a luxury that can only be savoured during school holidays.
4. Being curious. And the courage to take action and explore.
5. Learning something new. Like playing the piano.
6. Spending money. Using up all my savings from the past year in one go just to buy birthday gifts for my family. (3/4 of them were born in the same month!)
7. Buying a new pen, when I don’t need one. Those days, I would stand at the stationery shop and stare at those lovely pens with cute cartoons printed on them, and some that came with extra stuffs like a dangling mini umbrella stuck to the cap. Such pens were luxury items. Then.
8. Winning a writing competition. Probably, the seed of love for writing has been planted way then.
9. Being praised. Recognition from my loved ones for some little achievements I made along the way.
10. My first pager. When I was in university. And the number codes that could say a thousand words, without us hearing a voice.
11. Eating at home. Home cooked meals were the best. And always will be, in my opinion.
12. The smell of crayons.
13. Going to the beach. And staying up just to chit chat with all my close friends as we allow the sea breeze to caress our skins and the sound of the waves lapping up the shores to put us into sheer relaxation. Now that most of them have got their own families and children, such an activity is no longer possible!
