Follow Your Heart For Ice-Cream?
Girl: “Please help us. Please….”
Me: “Erh… why are you doing this?”
Girl: “It’s our holiday job lor… please help us please. We haven’t hit the minimum quota for today yet”
Me: “What will happen if you don’t hit the quota?”
Girl: “We’ll be sacked lor”
Then she gave me the “Please help me” dog-eyed look.
Gosh, God really gave her a gift of sweet looks and a well-mannered disposition. I checked the flavours on the menu…
Things happen for a reason, though we may not know what it is there and then.
As we were caught up in a very interesting topic about men and women, we left our dinner place slightly later than we should. That cost us the chance to watch the movie Gongfu Panda tonight. Somehow this panda still had it going even after one week of screening. Or was it two weeks? I can’t remember. Seats were sold out.
Fortunately, wisdom (or rather good foresight!) had it that we chose the cinema nearest our home, and we could use the most environmentally friendly mode of transportation to bring us back - walking. By the way, “we” were my hubby and I.
We were right at the middle of a road where either turning left or right would bring us home. In normal days, we should turn left and take the main road. However, without any good rhyme or reason, I started cajoling Stuart to take the untrodden route - that is, turn right.
Frankly speaking, it was a wild guess with a bit of logical deduction on my end that this would be another way home. Being in an adventurous mood tonight, I was all in for it, while Stuart was rather hesitant as he wasn’t sure if we would be wasting our time and effort and ended up getting lost in the neighbourhood.
Man! Talk about being adventurous is a guy’s thing! Even though he was in the right “man’s tasking mode” to solve the issue of going home the right and fast way, and even though he was worried that my injured leg wouldn’t be able to take me that far, still, where was the spirit to explore? Clearly, I was in the frolicky mode.
I won. Yay!
We ventured into the unknown. What is it about the unknown that is always so alluring?
The answer is mystery. Mystery tempts, seduces and charms one into doing things that they usually won’t give it a thought. Mystery rewards the adventurous for taking the risk.
Tonight, it was the opposite. The explorers handed the carrot to someone else.
That girl and a fellow guy companion was heading to somewhere, and they were walking in the opposite direction as us. At the point of crossing over each other, we were stopped by this girl. She asked for a flavour from us as a favour.
Ok, the guy was pulling a trolley that spelled Wall’s ice-cream. They were ice-cream promoters. And the sad news was they still hadn’t hit their minimum sales quota tonight.
When she began to show us the flavours and types of ice-cream they had enthusiastically, I had to break the truth that we don’t really eat this. She didn’t give up and promoted other types and flavours to both of us.
Well to cut the story short, we bought two boxes of mini cornettos from them. Hopefully they would retain their jobs and have a good night’s sleep.
So, what did we get when we followed our hearts? Ice-cream? Happiness of being able to offer what little help we can to these two hardworking teenagers? Love?
One simple slapdash decision, more than one very nice outcome.
