    The World Cup 2006 Finals

It’s happening slightly more than 12 hours away! Yes, I’m sure for all the World Cup fans, this must be the moment they have been waiting for. World Cup, once every 4 years. Yet, someone told me that no, it’s not! It’s once in a lifetime, because every match is different.

Well, I have to agree that what he said does make sense, doesn’t he?

    One More Step Towards Catholism

Few hours ago, I just attended our parish’s first Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), presided and spoken by our parish priest Father John-Paul. This talk, titled “The Challenges Facing Catholics Today” was named very aptly, as we soon learnt from the nature of questions being asked by the attendees.

Father John-Paul decided to base this evening’s talk on the challenges faced by us, and instead of him doing a one-way speech, he decided to turn it into an interactive session, and so papers and pens were passed to each of us to write down whatever questions or doubts we have, or the challenges we are facing right now so that he could answer them one by one for us.

    The 80/20 Rule – A Twist

If you think this is about the Vilfredo Pareto’s 80/20 Principle, then let me tell you the answer is negative. You can say it is a twist to that rule, or it’s just something which I’ve observed.

Have you noticed how easily someone emphasises on the negative so easily, regardless if it is in the majority 80% or the minority 20%? In fact, this is congruent to what we like to call the victim mode, where you lament on how things turned out against you everytime, why you are not on the A-list of your friends whom you consider as buddies, why you have shorter legs, smaller eyes or darker skin when these may be just a miniscule of all the good things you have.

Angel in Disguise – by Corrinne May

This lyrics came to me via an email from one of our Whoosh participant. Read it and open our eyes to those Angels in Disguise around us. :)

    A Child’s Self-Esteem

I just witnessed something bad, very bad.

There was a mother chiding her daughter, very loudly, on the platform in the MRT station. I only caught the last few words that briefly hinted it’s got to do with mobile phones.

Putting the cause aside, assuming the daughter has really done something wrong, but was the sin committed so heinous that she deserves a lashing-down in public? Have I mentioned that her head was perpetually looking down? And it was kept southwards all the way during the whole journey on the subway.

    Who Will You Be Tomorrow?

YZ forwarded me an extremely meaningful email (I ripped the title into this post ha!) which came in so very timely when I was planning to write on a similar topic, after I was struck by what a catechist Winston said during our dismissal session yesterday. (Note: the dismissal is a compulsory weekly routine for all catechumens undergoing RCIA. All of us will attend the mass, and after the Father has done with the homily, all catechumens will be dismissed to reflect on what has been preached. This is also when we share our personal experiences in the group and find out more about this faith)

To Be Cruel To Be Kind

    Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

I’m sure you have come across people saying this in your life. But are you aware of how much pain and heartaches it requires for one to be cruel in order to be kind?

This usually is the last resort one has to succumb to when all attempts and efforts to help someone in need have failed. And the closer this person is to you, the more pain you feel when you have to choose to leave him alone so that he can learn his lesson and become better.

Mid Year 2006: Reflection On Time

Today is the 1st of July 2006. It marks the beginning of the second half of the year, the 1st day of a 2-day hands-on workshop for internet marketing newbies by Stuart Tan, and this was the same day when Hong Kong was officially handed back to China and became known as the Special Administration Region (Hong Kong SAR) of China 9 years ago.

Time waits for no man. The time machine that transports you back to the past or forward to the future only happens in movies. In reality, as each second the clock ticks, they are spent, never to be rewinded.
