Peace Be With You

Peace angelThe priest says “May peace be with you”.

The congregation reply “And also with you”.

If you ever attend a Catholic mass, you would have heard of this “conversation” we all have with our priest. And it has become a habitual reply from all of us. Almost robotic, if I may put it crudely. Which comes the danger that we may be mouthing it so easily and routinely that we might have forgotten how important this is -that peace may be with us.

Taxi Drivers VS Young Drivers

Which one of them is more scary? Which one of them is more prone to accidents?

While taxi drivers earned a reputation by changing lanes instantaneously when a hand is raised up by a customer on the pavement, young drivers got famous through a string of high profile accidents that I read in newspapers.

I don’t hold the national statistics of traffic accidents involving the youths and taxis, but I’d like to voice out some observations I made while being on the road myself.

Stuart and I went out for a special dinner last night. Special because it had been some time (very long time in fact) since we arranged to go on a dinner date, and we both dressed up too. :)

We headed on to Rochester Park in a bid to avert the terrible traffic along CTE.

Very soon, besides enjoying the delicious food, friendly service and romantic atmosphere, our conversation steered towards something “deeper”.

K: “If you were the grassroots leader, how would you solve the issue of bicyclists and pedestrains?”

It seems like eons ago that I was baptised and formally known as a Catholic. But it was only a year ago that I received the Sacrament of Baptism. If you had read that blog post and still remember, I was baptised together with my sister and dad.

One year later, one more family was washed with the holy water. Well, technically speaking, there could be many other families last night all over Singapore who will receive the Holy Spirit upon them. But I’m referring to people I know.

We are all susceptible to this flaw. Yes, all of us.

We take for granted many things and many people. Like country security. Blame or credit it to the excellent governing of Singapore that allow our citizens and residents to live in a life of security and comfort.

In today’s TODAY, someone wrote in to express his disbelief and horror on his experience at the check-in counter of Valuair at our famed airport. What happened was this – he approached the counter staff, greeted her but his friendliness wasn’t being reciprocated. Courtesy of our airport staff – checked.

13 Words That Resonate With Me

Words. How very important such string of letters are. Without them, our worlds will be short of colour, meaning and love.

I’ve been wowed by many words as I’ve been put off by some. Stuart is clever with words, and he definitely banked on this forte during our courtship to make me go weak in my knees. Am I moved! :D

Without further ado, let’s see what I have for you now – words that rhyme, chime and charm me, all at one time.

13 Words That Resonate With Me, And Charms…

What about him? That he still holds the ultimate power to mesmerise us with his crystal clear voice? Or his moving rendition of those famous classic love songs?

Happy and excited, I stepped into The Max Pavillion at The Singapore Expo last Saturday to mark my 3rd time attending Jeff Chang’s concert. This time there was a major difference and a draw to his concert – the addition of a symphony orchestra.

Jeff Chang Singapore concertI haven’t look forward to an event as much for a long, long time. And I really looked forward to this particular one, but much to my disappointment. What made me downhearted was not any single reason, but a combination of at least three points of dissatisfaction.

Meet The Nice Guys

Nice picture?

Nice picture?

“We, the nice citizens of Singapore. Pledge ourselves as one united people”

We are united indeed, and we are all so nice.

Ok, what am I getting at?

That Singaporeans have habitually gotten used to only one adjective in our entire vocabulary.  Examples are:

“How’s the food? Is it nice?”

“Oh, the shirt/hairstyle/colour/pants look nice on you.”

“Is he/she nice?”

“I like the song. It’s nice.”

I used to fall into the nice traps too. Well, not that I’ve decided to ban this word forever, I’ve become more conscious of how limited we are in expressing ourselves.
