The Perfect Wedding

Wedding bells have been ringing ever since I stepped into my late-twentys phase. The next one is my godbrother’s wedding on January 2007 and another one in June.

Happy Bride Bride and groom-to-bes are excited (well they should!) in getting ready and prepared to walk down the aisle and take their marriage vows. Wedding planners are mushrooming in recent years, due to the more affluent couples’ want for a dream perfect wedding. But, is there such a thing as the perfect wedding? In fact, is there anything or anyone in this world that come so close to being perfect?

Having a perfect wedding seems like a wild goose chase. Some couples even went beyond their means just to have a grand affair. They ended with debts to clear after that. I’m not sure how much they enjoyed themselves during that day, because I knew I wouldn’t really smile that radiantly if I knew there’s a negative balance of $30,000 in my bank that I need to repay the next morning I wake up.

In the chase of having this perfect wedding, have we lost the real intention behind having a wedding? Why do we attend a wedding? For me, it is to give my blessings and well-wishes to the couple. What about you?

If there really is a perfect wedding, I guess it would be one where the couple is surrounded by all the love and joy of their friends and family members. It would be one where guests are there to witness the couple’s love. It would also be one happy event that is planned and executed according to the couple’s wishes and yet is within their means and boundaries. It would be a day full of happy, warm and loving memories for the newly-wed.

How about having more memories by tracking down all your experiences way before the big day? My friend Jhong Ren shares his all on his wedding blog. Check it out!

If you are also caught in this rat race of pursuing that perfect wedding, why not take some time to ponder over having the best marriage you can with your significant other? Wedding is only the beginning. Your marriage is the one that needs all your love, time and effort to make it work. Similarly, we can’t have a perfect marriage. But we can have the best marriage that we can ever make it out to be, isn’t it?

God said:

I loved the wedding, now invite me to your marriage.

P.S What was the most enjoyable wedding you have attended? What was it about that wedding that touched you? If you have such experiences to share, do drop us a smoochie and let us bask in the couple’s happiness too. :)

P.P.S. Have you submitted your love story for the first Love Story Writing Project? Do so now if you haven’t! There’ll be a winner who gets to walk away with a mystery prize!
