When I thought of the Top 10 Women Turn-Ons series, at the same time I came up with its counterpart. Why? Because it takes two to tango! No matter how much a girl loves to be pursued, she has a job to do in order to be successful in the dating field.

Instead of putting this series up after I’ve posted all the ten episodes of Top 10 Women Turn-Ons, I changed my mind now. So I will alternate between the two so both genders are addressed at the same time and we can see how males and females interact and the different roles they play in attracting the right person to their lives.

Top 10 Men Turn-Ons #1: More Than Just A Name

 

While surveying the males to get some meat and flesh for this series, this trait came up constantly. So I’m starting this series with this factor that turns men on.

While a man may or may not remember a lady’s face after the first date, what leaves them a deeper impression is not just the name that goes by the face. It’s how the conversation turns out to be.

If she is interesting, she will be more than just a name to go by. If she is pretty but not interesting, then she’ll be just a face to go by. If she is pretty AND interesting, she’ll definitely make deep inroads into the man’s heart, even on the first date.

Looks is a bonus really. Okay, looks is a BIG turn-off. I’ll talk about that too. And we know that men are more proactively and agressively looking out for such bonuses than women. But here’s the catch - no matter how pretty she is, if she’s not even aware of the major events (we’re talking real big events like the 911 attack or the December Tsunami) taking place in the world, then her attractive quotient is heavily discounted.

She could be the best expert in fashion, make up and what type of shoes will go with that dress or bag. But seriously, which man has such patience and attentiveness to listen as you rant on for 2 hours on just makeup, fashion and shoes?

The mere mention of anything that is out of her world and Her World (Singapore’s best-selling female fashion magazine) returns a blank-stare, followed by maybe a strenuous attempt to blink, smile and nod. That look can be pulled at most twice I guess, but when the guy sense you’re truly only a fashion freak and nothing else, he’ll zoom into boredom.

So girls, be interesting! You need not be the master of all trades, but it does bring you lots of reward when you’re more well-read. You are not expected to sniff through each and every piece of news in the paper, or to stick your ears and eyes to the TV set stoning through all the news programme from 9pm till midnight. Just get yourself acquainted with what is happening outside of your world.

If not to get a man’s attention, do it to enrich your own library of knwoledge and resources. If you have a certain passion, then by all means dig out as much information as you can. It should a very fun thing to do since that’s your passion. Nothing beats the kind of life one emits when he/she is talking about a topic that he/she is totally passionate about. It could be anything, like gardening, cooking, animal rights, environment protection, arts, music, charity etc.

Now, no one is suggesting you be the main speaker for the night. No, you don’t want to hog the conversation whole night, this turns people off. If you already are the well-read, well-travelled, well-spoken intellectual lady, then maybe you need to be mindful of Miss Right. Make the conversation flow with you and your date actively contributing to the topic. You will generate more interest and bring the excitement level up. The nice good feelings will act like undercurrent waves smashing into your hearts.

It just means getting yourself out there in the real world, absorb the vibes and you’ll have your share to contribute when the guy chooses a topic which you just happen to read about two days ago! Yes I know Her World too has articles that address some hotly debated topics and sensational issues.

The world is your oyster, really. But to make yours interesting and rich, you need to first realise how far and wide the horizon is, and the vast expanse of knowledge and learnings there are all around, waiting for us to pick on them.

Imagine the admiration you get when the guy is so awed that you actually have a response to his idea of how dolphins mate, for example.
