A Dry Week

TGIF? Well not really for me. It’s been a really, really dry week for me. And I mean that as I have no idea what to write for the entire week! Gosh!

At Stuart’s suggestion, I went out yesterday. With an original plan to sit at a cafe and watch the world go by, I changed my course and decided to prowl for my elusive mobile phone! Off I went to Funan IT Mall (you may ask, why there? Well, because some guy from HTC Customer Service told me Challenger and one more shop at Funan had live sets for me to test before I decide which model to buy!). Didn’t get to test any HTC sets (those shops mentioned didn’t really carry any, save for one model per store. Ha!) except for the super heavy HTC Touch Pro 2, which was a tad too weighty for me, hence it was eliminated from my watchlist.

But I got interested in HTC Touch HD though. Sporting a screen bigger than iPhone, it actually weighs amazingly light! There, this specification has caught my eye, but I still left disappointed because there was no live sets around for me to play around with. What a waste.

Roaming around, I decided to let my eyes and mind wander. I saw a couple sitting on the McDonald bench, and one might easily walk by and thought they were indeed pally with our dear ole’ Uncle Ronald McDonald! I sported several men – young to old – crowding around, totally immersed in the XBOX station in Challenger store. At the neighbouring department, more guys were hanging around there browsing through the host of games available for sale, and almost all the gaming stations were occupied. The atmosphere was filled with excitement molecules! And, I didn’t see any one with skirts. Where are all the lady gamers? Hmm …

As I was contemplating if I should park myself in a cafe and read a book or leave, I sported Nokia! Towards the station I scooted gleefully, and I was assisted by a very friendly and helpful guy there. Finally, I had the chance to lay my hands and fingers on the newly-launched N97 Mini! Few weeks ago I was almost decided to get Nokia N97 but was stopped by a friend who told me that phone, well, could be better off without. So, maybe the mini version might be better? Well, at least it looks prettier (I like the cherry black actually) and it weighs lighter than it’s big brother. Alas, the PDF reader function failed me. And the slide-out qwerty keypad was pretty hard to punch. Surprisingly, I was happier typing on the dummy set with the softer keys!

After a few rounds of testing on various other models, the guy finally passed me one set and said: “Let’s go back to basics.” I looked at the oblong object in his palm and thought: “Are you kidding? But I’m used to a touch-screen phone and I need a smartphone!” Of course, out of pure courtesy, my thoughts remained obligingly where they should be – in my mind and my mind only. Didn’t want to let him down, I took the Nokia E52 and started fingering around. Well, the keypad was really easy to use, albeit that was the only way to input any text. But if it worked fast and good, why should we look for other more fanciful (which means, complicated) alternatives?

I didn’t get anything from the Nokia station because I couldn’t. So I really like to say a big THANK YOU to that guy who was patient enough to be with me throughout, and to re-introduce this concept that I had, over time with the launching of bigger, better technology, conveniently forgotten – simplicity is good.

I came back and went to YouTube to search for some videos on this phone and found that compared to the other more “powerful” models, this handselt came with too few reviews. Nevertheless, there was one which was pretty comprehensive, and I was satisfied with what I saw. In short, the Nokia E52 is kinda a cheery phone to have, I thought.

So, there you go. I’ve written my first blog in this dry week, though I’ve half a mind not to post this. After all, it’s nothing but a day of mobile-hunting. Well, at least I’ve started writing, and this, is the most important thing, isn’t it? :)

How was your week so far?

Personally for me, I never really like Nokia phones. Maybe because I am already small size, with petite hands, so I don’t like anything bigger than my palm, and Nokia phones are too bulky for my liking. I much prefer smaller, sleeker and aesthetically pleasing phones anytime!

Well, my second phone was a Nokia, but haven’t used it till now! But though I’m rather petite, I prefer bigger handphones haha.. just for the screen actually :)
