Let me begin wtih a story:

“There was a girl who was born in a village into a big family. This girl grew up like any other girl, only that she was much happier than anyone. One would have thought she must be rich and happy. Well she is, because “poor” was never in her mind and thoughts.

When she was little, she didn’t know that not having rice to eat during lunch while her other school mates dived into their sumptuous lunch boxes was poor, because her grandmother would feed her with biscuits till she was full.

When she was in her teens, she never knew that not having a trendy watch was poor, because she had one that assured her punctuality, ableit not fashionable-looking.

When she was an adult, she never knew that wearing the same pair of shoes to work till they wore off was poor, because she didn’t have the taste of going barefooted on the roads.

She is such a happy woman…”

How different is this girl from any of us? On first glance, you may not notice any. But on hindsight, if we were to live her life, would we not complain of poverty? That we are so poor that we cannot afford to eat rice for lunch but had to be fed on too many biscuits till we’re full?

We want good material things for ourselves, because we’re always comparing what we have with what others have.

We then realise that whatever we have is not enough, because others have more.

The focus then shifts to what we don’t have, and we forgot to be thankful for and appreciative of what we already have.

This little girl never for once sees what she doesn’t have. Instead, she’s only aware and conscious of what she has! Like she has never starved before, regardless of what food went into her stomach.

She always has a roof over her head, regardless of how small and squeezed her space may be.

She always has clothes to wear, regardless of the design, brand and material.

How can someone like that be poor? That is why she never feels she’s poor, and so should we.

Start to pay attention on what we have and not what we don’t have. Perhaps we’ll be much happier.

We should definitely be thankful for what we have. I have also written an article on happiness called 10 Secrets of Happiness I learnt from Andrew Matthews. Feel free to have a look =P

Oh I’ve removed the poll from the site! Those 41% refers to the type of men who will take the first initiative to ask the girl out for a date! Girls still love to be chased!
