From the lush foliage, it looks like the perfect place to charm your date. If you don’t appreciate nature, then enjoy the romantic ambience indoors as you take it delicious sushi, crunchy and sweet sashimi and savour warm sake.

Head down to Oosh, one of the latest place to enjoy food at Tanglin Village, better known as Dempsey Road.

I went there last night with my sister and a friend. I was taken in by the surroundings immediately, knowing how much I love nature.

With an extremely hungry stomach, I can’t wait to savour the delectable dishes that were printed on the menu.

Well, I wasn’t disappointed at all. In terms of food, it’s all thumbs up. I had the Pacific Dory while my sister had roasted lamb and my friend ate spaghetti cooked in black pepper sauce with beef.

One word – simply heavenly. Ok, that is two words. But one word can’t really describe the satisfaction I got from the meal.

We had butter pudding for dessert, which was another sweetener for my taste bud.

I’m sorry for not taking photos of these lovely dishes as I wasn’t really prepared for this dinner. But I got this from their website for your viewing pleasure.

But, things really aren’t as picture perfect as the lush environment.

Firstly, the service level has lots to improve on. I was left wondering the entire night why wasn’t there any napkins for us. My doubt was finally cleared when I saw that there were indeed napkins available, as the waiters folded them at my opposite table nearing the closing time.

That means, they had forgotten to give us the napkin! Throughout the entire dinner! It wasn’t very often that I had to pull out my tissue paper when I am dining in a restaurant. I thought it was only an action required when I’m eating at a food court or hawker centre.

Guys, this is your opportunity to impress your date. Hand out your tissue paper to your date. Your girl will be grateful to you, trust me.

Then, the waiter who took our orders didn’t seem all that friendly when we asked for two more minutes to decide on what to eat. The “Sure” and a smug didn’t settle very well with us in fact.

Plus, when I asked for warm water, it didn’t come until my friend re-requested for it. And the fact that they had conveniently forgotten to give my sister another glass of water to replace the first one (which was asked to be taken away due to a very weird smell) only means the service level really doesn’t quite measure up with the expectations it set on its patrons.

Again, this is another chance for you guys to impress your date. With forgetful waiters like these, when is the best time to show your sensitivity towards your date than now? Remind them of the requests from your date and she will know that you actually listened to what she wanted. Most importantly, you remembered!

Now, girls find this a really sweet gesture. Trust me again.

Last but not least, less this looks like a complaint post, was that they didn’t even bother to ask if we were sharing the dessert. So after putting down that one serving of butter pudding, the waitress turned and left immediately. Of course, I had to ask for extra spoons so we don’t have to eat out of each other’s spoon, literally.

I must say the only redeeming grace is the excellent taste of the food. But I really hope they brush up their service standards, so that patrons will truly have an oosh of a time. Dining can be a very enjoyable activity, when good food is served under a conducive atmosphere complemented by friendliness of the people around us.

But when one part of the equation is missing, you just can’t help feel uneasy over that missing piece. Especially when you are paying the price for it.

Lousy customer service can really kill the entire meal… perhaps it would be a good idea to send them an email to highlight your experience. That should be a good indication that its time for them to perk up and get the right things done right.

Come come, read my review on the Earle Swensen I had with the rest of the peeps on Sunday.
