Fun Energy at Ben & Jerry’s

I stepped into Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream shop in Suntec City. Two girls brimming with energy greeted us with such good cheers and spirits it’s like drinking hot chocolate in wintertime – the warmth and happiness transcended into bubbles enveloping us all around.

Suddenly, it doesn’t feel that cold anymore as a result of the non-stop rain plus the unforgiving aircon. And I felt happy even before eating the ice-cream! And the ice-cream appeared to be extra delicious and all of them started buzzing ”eat me eat me!” And the girl’s zeal in recommending the different flavours to me in her enthusiastic and peppy tone plus her sunshine smile doesn’t help in any bit to curb my cravings.

But with the consciousness of my erh, tummy, I resigned to only one scoop.

All these jubilant feelings, arising from only a simple greeting, and lots of sincere smiles. :)

This is indeed a classic example of excellent customer service. In Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s National Day Rally 2005 Speech, he attributed one section specially to Service Culture. Products are no longer the kings, whether or not you are in the service industry. Warm and personal services go a long way to leave deep and lasting impressions in consumers minds nowadays. So retailers and companies who are still sleeping away and disregarding the significance of customer service, it’s about time they develop the culture before they start losing much more than they can imagine.

Besides the service culture, what knocked me was how easily these girls captivated me! Their energy alone makes the whole ice-cream eating experience an entirely different one – more refreshing, enjoyable and surely more memorable. This energy is contagious. This energy is what I call Attraction.

This energy draws people to you. It makes them want to look at your smile, talk to you and be close with you. It makes them happy to be around you. How can we ever forget someone like this easily? No we don’t.

Apply this to this special person whom you have just met, you have developed a liking for, you are in love with, and their hearts will be yours.

Quoting what the co-founder Jerry says (that I found in the shop to my best recall):

If a business is not fun, it’s not worth doing.
