I Don’t Know! Do You Really?
24 Jul 2006
Very conveniently, almost brainless to say “I don’t know” to whatever questions thrown in your face which you may not have an immediate answer to. Agree?
The power of words! Because it is so easy to reply “I don’t know”, they do not understand the consequence that by saying this immediately shifts the balance away and put themselves in an unfavourable position, do you realise this? It instantly disempowers you.
Why not engage your mind in an inquisitve mode instead, one that is willing and eager to find out more, to learn, and to discover the solution that once daunted you. At times, just by willing yourself to think deeper, it does not come as a surprise that you may already have the answer! And if you really do not have them, go and find out! You could hit the internet where zillions of puzzles can be solved with the click of a key, or ask a friend whose expertise lies in that area, or pay a visit to the library. There are abundant resources out there, if you are willing to open your eyes and mind to look, search and explore.
So, next time, perhaps a better reply would be ”That’s an interesting question. Let me go find out and get back to you” instead of “I don’t know”? Â
