JJ Lin Kissed Fan Wei Qi!

Since this was JJ’s wish to spread some rumours about him and his guest singer, Chrstine Fan Wei Qi, more fondly known as Fan Fan, then his wish shall be my command!

So, with the help of his little scheme of a finger-guessing game, JJ planted a kiss on Fan Fan’s right cheek, under the public scrutiny of all the ‘rumour-loving’ media, the ever-prying camera and with the blessings of his 10,000-strong screaming fans in Singapore indoor Stadium. Well, I, er, happen to be one of the 10,000.

[Post Script: Due to a reader's question, it has come to my attention that not everyone might know Fan Fan is dating another celebrity nicknamed "Hei Ren" and the kiss was just a playful act. Nothing more, okay?]

Yesterday night was a celebration of sorts.

Firstly, JJ was treated to a feast of inpromptu symphony of 10,000 voices rendering a heart-felt Happy Birthday song to celebrate his 28th birthday that fell on the eve of his concert: JJ Lin World Tour 2009. Singapore was the first leg of this tour! Aren’t we all fortunate?

Secondly, JJ had his fans made a ‘commitment’ to support the Earth Hour - a green movement campaign in which lights would be switched off for an hour from 8:30 to 9:30pm on March 28. We had our first minute of lights-off in the concert, and we would all go back home and remember the remaining 59 minutes we still owed to the environment.

Thirdly, Singapore had the fortune to witness the birth of some impish and very cute fellas! I’m not going to say more about this, less this becomes a spoiler. Just one more word about them – they’re really adorable!

Hearing his old concerts again, I found that JJ had marked improvement in his powers in singing live. He gave a performance that scored on both visual and vocal elements. Personally, I would have preferred more ballads, though his fast numbers were carried out with enough panache.

At one point, JJ surprised us with his impersonation of some of the pop song maestros like Jacky Cheung and Michael Jackson. I must say he was pretty good. I had turned to Stuart and said: “Why does he sound like Jacky Cheung?” even before any of us knew he was going to imitate him.

The climax of the concert, to me, was the surprise birthday gift the production team had for JJ – his entire family appeared from under the stage, literally.

Elder brother, the gentleman playing the piano in the middle of the stage was flanked by Mum, the elegant lady playing the Chinese pipa (a four-stringed lute with a pear-shaped body) and Dad, the charming man pulling the Chinese erhu (a two-stringed bowed instrument) on both sides.

What a music family! I began to have an inkling of where all those incredible music genes in JJ came from. It was the most heart-warming scene and moment in the concert.

This composer cum singer sure has what it takes to be so popular. If there’s really something to gripe about (really I had to scratch my head very long for this), maybe he could brush up on his Cantonese, not that anyone of us mind its entertaining value now (at the kind of standard he’s speaking, that is).

By the time I left, my heart was still in the stadium – with Jj, his family, and of course, those cute fellas whom I still haven’t seen enough of.

I can’t speak for the rest of the crowd, but I’m almost sure that one of them would probably find it hard to sleep with the special attention she got from this baby-faced dimpled music whizkid.

Yes, she was the one who had the privilege to spend some five minutes, sitting side by side, shoulders to shoulders, and almost cheek to cheek, with the man who was the object of affection of everyone in the stadium last night. How lucky!

Here’s to a huge success to the rest of the legs of JJ’s world tour, with God’s blessings and all his fans love and support.

Hi hyperX, of course they’re not! Haha… we all know Fan Fan is dating a taiwanese celebrity nicknamed “Hei Ren”. Even for those who didn’t know, JJ has explicity reminded all of us in the concert.

So, this was really just a cheeky act of JJ with the gracious Fan Fan as a willing accomplice!
