Have you been to Orchard Road lately?
Well, I wasn’t prepared for such a surprise when I chose to walk from Winsland House at Somerset to Scotts Lido. I thought since it’s only a MRT stop away, why not walk there instead of taking the subway? So I walked. No, I wriggled my way there, to be more precise.
The entire stretch of road starting from Cineleisure to CK Tang was full of gigs, and of course, people (that’s why I had to wriggle through!). You name it, there will be at least one! Carolling, dancing, live band performance, church performance and even a stage drama was out there. I didn’t have time to lose standing there to watch, but as I had to squeeze my way among the crowds, I had the luxury to listen to some parts of the script being read out. Specifically, I remembered this line before I left that “drama area”.
The mother said to her son: “No matter what, you must remember that he is your Pa.” She must be referring to the man sitting right in the middle of the “stage”, and one could clearly tell this act is set in the 1960s. I wonder what is the relevance of this performance to Christmas? Alas, I didn’t have the time to find out.
As I moved on, I could hear loud sounds of emcees talking to the crowd, bands playing and groups carolling at different parts of Orchard Road, both on the same side as well as the opposite side of where I was walking.
What a sight!
Christmas is indeed coming, and Singapore is livelier than ever!
And I strolled past a magnificent Christmas tree! How did I know it was magnificent? Because there was a “traffic jam” just outside Paragon, and as I turned my head toward the direction where the many cameras were pointing to, my gaze stopped at this brightly lit, gorgeous tree decorated with several ballerinas donning golden round skirts. Right at the centre of the tree was a plague that reads “Christmas Spectacular”. Hmm… indeed.
Very nice! No wonder the flashes keep coming my way. I mean, I was passing by and had to duck my head to avoid being captured as the background.
If you haven’t been to Orchard Road yet, what are you waiting for? Just remember to put on a comfortable pair of walking shoes and you’re ready to soak in the arts performances as well as have your beauty shot taken with those stunning trees that are all lined up.
Merry Christmas everyone!
