My New Beginning, from Two To Tango

As I am writing this, I have just “completed” one of the most significant journeys in my life. Without embarking on this journey 2 years ago, I wouldn’t be who I am today, and I certainly won’t be so passionately writing and talking about dating issues now.

To cut the long story short, if you have known me through this unique lifestyle dating agency Two To Tango, well I’d like to say we have just closed this business in March 2006, after being around for close to 2 years.

It was a very difficult, even painful period for us at the time when we had to make our decision to continue or to cease. It wasn’t without any struggles, practically, emotionally and mentally, that we had to go for the latter.

And, the next thing that was constantly on our minds was the problem of settling our members who still had existing unfulfilled dating packages with us. After a gruelling time, we are happy that we have done our very best for them, 99% were happy in the end, and now is the time for us to close this chapter.

Above all, what was most heart-warming to know from this closure was how much our members loved us for who we are and what we have done for them. In expressing their sadness to hear of our exit, many of them mooted us to continue helping them. We are very touched, and moved by their kind words, because we knew these came from the bottom of their hearts.

It was hard to let go, but when it’s time, we need to move on. So, in the midst of settling our emotions, we also have to handle all the nitty-gritty issues that come with ceasing a business operation. It’s a real test for both of us, and we are glad we have emerged from this crisis, and yes, we are glad that we have become stronger.

Two To Tango is a major learning point for me. For it not just teaches me the ups and downs of running a business, it also points to me the value of friendships.

We have so many people to thank, for their unconditional help and trust in us, from the very first day we started, till the last day we ended. They have been there when we were painting our offices, shopping for furniture, designing our ads, coming up with all the creative, and above all, buying dinner and supper for us when we stayed up late at night or when we were still working away during weekends and Raffles Place is basically a dead town by then.

They helped us not expecting any reward nor recognition, but all the same, we really like to thank them for this invaluable friendship and their contributions. These heroes and heroines in our lives are (in order of names):

  • Amanda – our uncomplaining accountant
  • Charles - our all-rounder for helping in all sorts of ways, big or small
  • Daniel – our dear brother, for helping out ad-hocly
  • Dawn – my dear cousin, who has also put in her heart and soul in those days working with us
  • HX - our dear SD, for being there as our emotional support and great helper during special events
  • Johnson a.k.a YoYo – our creative man
  • Johnny Poh – our networking cum IT security man
  • Kelvin – another colleague who has brought us many laughter and warmth with his sincerity
  • Pher and Ben (albeit MIA in the end haha) – also our networking cum IT man
  • SYP – for putting your unsuspecting and unquestioning trust in us
  • Travis – also our all-rounder man cum our main painter cum our office repairman
  • Our “Big Brother” – for lending your hand in times when we needed help. You know who you are, so no mention of name ya ;) Your presence has been a great support for us, really
  • The Couple – for coming in as our angels. Again, you know who you are, don’t you?
  • Billene, Lily, Lazius, Tracy – our supermodels
  • Wein - for ferrying us home
  • Our ex-colleagues
  • Last but not least – all our members, more specifically the handful of you whom have become our friends in this intimate journey we have walked together

And, all of them double up as our F&B Manager cum Logistics and Transportation Manager haha ;) Always bringing us food from wherever they are to feed our body and soul.

Our most heartfelt and sincerest gratitude to all of you, our dear friends. Who you are made a difference to us because of your selfless contribution, support and trust in us that let us ride the waves of turbulence and uncertainty in this entire voyage.

One door closes only means another door is opening. As this momentous chapter reaches its last episode, I will embark on My Hero’s Journey again, with all my learning, discoveries, triumphs, strengthened and new friendships on my back as I dived into the new ocean of hope, challenges and uncertainties, I shall continue to search for my treasure.

Wish me luck friends :)

When one door closes, another one opens.

This chapter closes, leaving another open.

I’m not the one with the kindest words yet I want to thank you and Grace for the difference that you have made to many. Amidst the noise and haste of breathless pace of life here in Singapore, you ladies are conduits, catalysts and cement for those who have walked through your door.

For lack of better knowledge, I cannot find a better metaphor for you speeding up the bonds between people who will forever share a part of each other. Catalysts…but you cannot be unchanged and unaltered after moving people this way.

When the dust settles and on a lighter note, be glad that you did things that left footprints in their lives, no on their backs!! Though I do suspect that there’ll bound to be a few (or maybe more) who have footprints on their collective butts.

So here’s the very best to the sisters and their ex-crew (er..sound a bit off if you read fast: scr..why nevermind!), on behalf of all things good…how better can the best be for good byes.
