A quiet session that led us into a deep reflection mood. One of the best that I enjoyed so far, and which inspired me the most.
Led by Mary Yap, she got us to do some visualistion to warm us up to the reflective mood. Didn’t know what was in store, I secretly jumped at this chance to close my eyes and sneak some quick nap, as I was feeling very sleepy. (Hey, we woke up at 5am that morning to go for a morning walk, or rather to appreciate nature and be close to God) Within minutes of going into the session itself, I soon discovered hey, this is very interesting, and deep inside me I knew IÂ was going to discover something about me that I may not be that aware of.
The entire visualistion brought me to this journey in my life, as I begin to see different pictures, scenes, faces and experience the emotions that was happening inside me as these mental images play as a movie in my mind. When we were asked to open our eyes, each of us was given a sheet of paper with a set of footprints on it.
Then, a series of question was posed to us. With each question asked, we travelled back to that mental movie and start replaying it to find the answers where we wrote them down on the footprints.
The answers we were looking for include our thoughts, desires, fears, beliefs, people we love, we need, we like to want to help. It is the result of a search inside us, the questions we asked ourselves and the courage to face the truth that our subconscious is telling us. The person we feel who needs to change could very well be myself, which was the case for me in one of the question. Because as the face of the person flashed in my mind, it very soon dawned on me that I am also guilty of exactly that.
So in order for things to change, I must change first. Hence, I wrote down “me” on my footprints.
Everyone needs and everyone has a purpose in their lives. From this we’ll be able to determine the mission that we set out to do. I knew what my mission was, before this exercise, and I confirmed it during this exercise. I felt really good that because of the congruency and the way I see this mission interacting and inter-relating with the other parts in my life that gives the whole picture much more sense than to just look at it in an isolated fashion.
Looking at what we wrote on the paper, even though I merely wrote the answers and not the questions, it made complete sense to me as Mary flashed the punch line that summed up the whole exercise in one, brief, sentence:
You look at what you have written on your footprint and you hear Jesus whisper your name, saying, “You can do this.”
Doesn’t this not spell out what your mission in life is? Doesn’t your subconscious not already given you the truth your conscious self has been seeking? How does all these relate to what you are currently doing? To who you love and care about?
At times, it is necessary to stop and ask yourself this to serve as a check on how well you are faring and how much better you can be.
I like this session. Thanks Mary!
