Off To Missionary Work

Christian CrossThings in life are truly unexpected. Like what Forrest Gump said “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what is inside until you open it”

Me and my sister just had dinner with a long-time friend for two purposes – one is to celebrate her birthday, and two is to give her farewell before she begins a completely new chapter in her life in a two weeks time.

She’ll be flying to Hawaii alone for a missionary work – to spread the words of Christ for 18 months.

Kloudiia and Eunice

This is us! :)

Christians believe that God touches us in different ways and in His own time. He will call us for various missions that will put us to life’s tests through some challenges and tribulations. He do this for a purpose, which we may or may not fully comprehend there and then. But we know we will eventually, that’s what our faith is all about.

Eunice had this calling a year ago, just days before her birthday. She accepted it, planned for it and now one year she is about to put it into real concrete action and materialise the whole episode.

While chatting during the dinner, we were obviously curious why she made such a decision and really went ahead with it? I mean there are certainly many obstacles she need to overcome, like family objections, financial obligations and such. So we really took our hats off to her, and those who did the same, to be able to have such strong courage to do this.

Why was it unexpected? From someone who used to be strongly anti-Christ to who she is now, it is not just a leap. In my personal opinion it is a quantum leap. Well, we say God has touched her and now she is ready to serve Him.

In non-religious context, we may have experienced certain strong feelings against something in the past. Usually these strong feelings arose from really bad encounters either personally or to your close friends around you. However if we were to just assume a different identity in viewing those events with a clean fresh lens, maybe, just maybe, we will discover new possibilities that were completely hidden and camouflaged from our dark-tinted lens.

What if you wake up one day and decide that you shan’t let your great vocals go to waste and you want to be a singer instead of an auditor? What if a millionnaire decides to give up all his riches and start everything from scratch? What would he learn now that he wouldn’t have if he still had those wealth? What if a former foe now become your friend? A food you used to hate now becomes an indispensable part of your diet due to its nutrients which your body absolutely needs?

What kind of life would we have led differently then? What kind of life can we lead differently now? It is about an awakening, isn’t it?

To my friend Eunice, I wish her all the best in this new spiritual journey she is about to aboard. It is my belief that she will see it through and gain a lot during this stint. Good luck, enjoy and God will bless you.
