Sing a Song of 6523

How did my mum come up with number in the first place?

It all began with this …

Hubby had been craving to sing for some time. Due to some incidences and circumstances, his wish hadn’t been fulfilled.

Finally, we found a window of time to sing on this Sunday. 3 hours was all we got. So, I asked my mum along and she readily agreed. Well, rather hesitantly I would say. After all, she was afraid that she might be “in our way”. How unfounded her worries are! The microphone will be in the way, practically all the time haha!

Before we went, mum kept telling me that she too, has a system at home. “BMB set ah,” she said.

“Ok, but you don’t have the songs we want to sing,” I replied.

“I have many songs here leh, English ones too.”

“But we seldom sing English songs leh.”

“Stuart doesn’t sing English songs? You mean he can sing Chinese songs?” Now, she seemed genuinely surprised.

I nodded.

So, off we went.

That was certainly the first time my mum went karaoke with us, but I’m not sure if that was the first time for her. The first moment she sat down, quickly glancing at this tiny room with nothing but a sofa, table and TV, she must be wondering: “Why do you guys like to coop up in this room for so long?”

I was wrong. She wasn’t thinking about that.

Pointing to the speaker, she said happily: “BMB leh! Same as what I have at home, see I told you!” So, she was still bent on affirming her good taste in a karaoke home system.

Yes, I hear you mum. I know you have a superb system, but that doesn’t beat having the latest hit songs for us to scream our lungs out and shake our bon-bons, does it?

Thus we started our 3-hour long singing fever. Nothing special happened except that the drinks came exceptionally late and my mum kept repeating that she should have written down the song titles before she came out.

Yet, it was because there was nothing special about it that makes me feel good. An idyllic afternoon, passion-filled interest, simple relaxation – in the company of family.

So, what has this got to do with 6523? Mum decided this day was special enough to buy 4D. Great idea! But only as great as the idea itself – for there was no money in sight. Ha! Maybe next round, mummy!
