The Game Plan

Honestly speaking, this wasn’t the top of my choice of movies to watch on the eve of Deepavali. But due to the consideration of all the parties involved, we had to settle on something that was generally acceptable to everyone. A movie that is safe, not too deep in content and entertaining. “The Game Plan” fits the bill completely. I guess that’s why it’s the game plan haha.
The little girl was absolutely rivetting. Not only did her natural acting captured our entire attention, her big brown eyes and those curly locks scored bonus points for her too. She was simply lovable. She was Peyton Kelly, played by Madison Pettis – the 8 year old daugher of Joe Kingman.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s signature champion smile could be seen all over the movie, until the little disaster came knocking at his door. Then, as we would have guessed, Peyton very soon wriggled into his heart and became the No. 1 in his life, in replacement of football.
Maybe the predictability of the plot was the reason that made me hesitated watching it. But, what I didn’t expect was how heart-warming (and superbly hilarious and entertaning!) this movie actually was, and how it depicted the kind of relationship a father could share with a daughter.
From a self-centred, selfish and a me-me-me guy to a man who knows what is family and parent responsibility, we saw the gradual change that took place in 30 days that Peyton was there to play a daughter’s role to a shocked father Joe.
The innocence Peyton brought into Joe’s life had the strong impact on not just him alone, but that of the entire football team, the neighbourhood and even the money-minded broker (whom didn’t really had it her way). Imagine the power of a little girl.
Offscreen, her words and action also reminded us of how we, as adults, are slowly being detached from things that we used to treasure but no longer care about now. What was it that you held dear to you when you were young, but has changed in the place in your heart now? Would you like to recapture it? What new significance could it have hold for you now if you were to recapture it?
Maybe we could take some time to think about this and reintroduce some charming innocence into our busy, matured and wildly-materialistic adult lives.
Another attraction that is worth mentioning is the lovely and attractive ballet teacher played by Roselyn Sanchez. I was smitten by her as well ha!
One more bonus to watch this movie! If you haven’t seen a bull dog in tutu, then The Game Plan will show you! LOL
Whatever that you have learnt from this movie, I certainly hope that it has brought some pretty and interesting changes, and that you might incorporate them into your existing game plan!
For example, King’s life motto “Never Say No”? How can you use that to live your life better?
For me, it is absolutely the reinforcement that no achievements are bigger or more important in life than to have the love, care and concern only your loved ones, family and close friends can bring. Yes, relationships and family are what matter most!
How about you?
P.S Just as I’m writing this review post, Star Movie channel is showing the making of this movie and an exclusive interview with The Rock! What a timely coincidence!
