The Opportunity

When you pray for patience, God doesn’t give you patience. He creates an opportunity for you to learn how to be patient.

That’s what I got from watching Evan Almighty, when God spoke to Evan’s wife in the show.

“Wow, such wisdom” I thought.

Whether it is God who answered your prayer, or the Universe, what do you do when you are given the opportunity?

Do you see that as the opportunity, or do you see it as an obstacle to getting what you want and what you’ve asked or prayed for?

If you asked for success, do you frown when you are given a challenge that seems too daunting for you? Do you feel that you have been picked on to do the job that nobody wants to do or will be able to complete it?

If you asked for love, do you cry and get depressed when your relationship hits a rock? Or do you see that arguments as opportunities to clear the air and know your partner better?

If you asked for patience, do you stamp your feet when you missed the bus and have to wait for twenty more minutes? Or do you start practising some routines or new tricks you learnt to make your time meaningful so that you don’t focus on the time wasted but rather on the beautiful environment around you?

I learnt that in life, when you ask for something, you don’t necessary receive it in the form you envision it to be. Rewards don’t come nicely packaged and ready to use. They may be the end products of the opportunities that are presented to us.

But usually we spend too much time lamenting on why our prayers aren’t answered that we totally don’t see the actual fruits coming.

I hope we can all stop making these mistakes, and start opening our eyes to see, our ears to listen and most importantly, our hearts to feel.

Look out for the next opportunity coming. Grab it and make the most out of it.

Make the most out of your life, my dear friend.

And if you have the mega ambition to change the world, you can do this by performing an Act of Random Kindness, one at a time.

Very interesting, because I was just discussing about this with a friend some days back. When we pray to Him for something, do we pray that He drops it right infront of us, or do we pray that He gives us an opportunity to do something to attain what we want?

I think we pray that He drops it right in front of us, or maybe behind, or beside. You get the point. Or maybe have it disguised. Well I certainly didn’t think it will be the reward for tackling the specific opportunity that He will drop on our laps! Now that I look at it, it can very well mean this way! haha…
