The Thing About 4D
04 May 2006
My friend’s mum called, asking her to do something very simple yet carries a degree of 100 to the power of infinity of importance. It is so critical that she had to call and tell my friend herself, even if she is not in Singapore.
Probably you have guessed it right by now. Yes, she wanted my girlfriend to buy the 4 golden digits for her, aka 4-Digit (4D).
In case you are not a local Singaporean, 4D is simply, lottery. You come up with a combination of 4 digits, e.g 1234, and you place a certain stake. If I can put it correctly, there are 3 categories of prizes to be won, namely from top down the Top 3 prizes, Starter and Consolation Prizes.
Â
Believe me, if you say soccer fans are a bunch of loyal die-hard enthusiasts, then, maybe the closest thing to match or supercede would be 4D devotees. The bettors consistently try their lucks and buy some hope from twice every week to twice every week. Well, some of them admitted they weren’t so zealous and only bet on the weekend draws.
Then, there are those who felt that buying 3 times hope weekly is not sufficient, so they also jumped into the Toto pool! Now, they put more eggs in more baskets! Does this increase the overall probability of striking a prize, thus reducing the mean degree of risk? You can do your math, or rather, your statistics.
One very interesting insight I learnt from 4D is this, and I find it’s a very relevant reflection upon life.
Imagine this scenario: You bought this number consistently for every draw for a period of time. Then, for one particular day, you either forgot to buy, OR you chose to take a break and give that draw a miss.
Slam! The exact number came out in THAT draw that you MISSED! And it was the 1st PRIZE!
You fainted, right on the spot. Literally.
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? I’m sure most of you have either heard of this before, or you have been the victim once.
I bet 100% of these victims would surely claim this “Lady Luck just isn’t shining on them on that day.” They would whine, beat their chest out, stomp the floor, toss and turn on their bed till daylight with a sudden fit of amnesia. They will also blame themselves on not keeping it up, especially since they have been loyally betting on the SAME number over and over and over and over again.
I empathise with them. Truly.
Yet, you know what? I have another set of arguments to share over here. It is my own perspective, and it’s neither been proven by science nor evidenced by research. It is just my very own set of differing views, that’s all.
They are just not meant to win, period. And, Lady Luck IS actually showing them the truth by waiting for them to give THAT miss so that she can wave her magic wand and perform her hocus-pocus.
I mean, isn’t it really so plain for all to see that they just aren’t meant to win? And, the fact that that number came out when they didn’t buy only means that they should realise this fact and stop buying so that they can lose lesser which in turn means they won more, indirectly. Makes sense?
Because, if the money is meant to be for you, it would be for you. Lady Luck will ensure that her spell is cast at the right day, right moment for the right person. I mean, unless you really are a statistician (lottery is also another form of gambling where if you take all the winning numbers for the past 2 decades or longer, and with some super complex algorithmn, trend charts etc, you may get to the point where you can predict the combination for the next 1st prize. If you aren’t sure, watch Beautiful Mind), which most of the 4D fans aren’t anyway, then it only boils down to the element of luck, plus maybe how strong your belief is
What has this got to do with life? It sure has!
Because in life, you always have the freedom of choice, and it’s what you choose to perceive and interpret a matter that will eventually affect your decision. Many things are just a matter of perspectives, and seeing things with a slight twist actually have the exponential power to turn the whole situation around resulting in wondrous payoffs.
And, the reverse is true.
So, be mindful of the way you see and cognise things, and how you make your conclusion.
Back to the 4D scenario. So, should the victim bemoan his loss, or should he celebrate his new-found “X” point in winning by cutting future loss?
If all else fails, buy a new number, and hop into the circle of fortune again.
Last but not least, GOOD LUCK to all who are 4D fans. Your day of fortune will come, if you believe strong enough ha!
