A Simple Love Story – Henry Aw from Singapore

Love Stories 1: the angel

On a bright November Friday afternoon, I worked up my courage to telephone her (Wendy).  Finally I believed that action was the only way to see results.  Her contact number was given to me by my distant relative’s niece as I had contemplated whether to give myself a chance to know more female friends.  I was 26 then. Still young, I supposed I could wait to look around the forest for an ideal tree.   My Love for Wendy Forever
Henry

I called and from her tone, I guessed that she was not totally excited about me.  She seemed to be expecting my call and so my first attempt went smoothly.  I did my best to establish a good impression and continued with several calls in the following weeks.  Finally on one Saturday afternoon, we agreed to meet up at Commonwealth MRT station. What a place to meet!

She came, walking gracefully holding an umbrella to shield herself from the scorching sun into the station. Wow! That was an exciting moment.  I greeted her and invited her to Orchard Road to see the Christmas lightings and decoration.  The Christmas joy and the wonderful atmosphere were exhilarating. We had an enjoyable time together that evening.  From then on, love blossomed quickly.  Later, we had so many great evenings so much so that we forgot about the existence of time. That period was one of my greatest moments in life.

Events happened fast and as we were both in love and ready for marriage, we got engaged in March the following year.  It was a decision partly driven by my father’s poor health, which had turned for the worse. Even then, we were both mature enough to be ready for a mutual life commitment together.  We held our customary wedding in September the same year. Seeing that his son was married, my father eventually passed away in peace. She was supportive of me throughout the period of difficulties I faced after the death of my father.

Married life ensued.  Adjustments to each other’s habits came along naturally. At the same time, some wonderfully pleasant and challenging moments crossed our paths in marriage.  Life is always a journey that fills us with emotions which either lifts you up or knocks you down. Ultimately it is our love for each other that persevered over all things big or small.

We are now happily married for 16 years with a daughter of 13.  Wendy has always been my wonderful wife, great lover, companion, and best of all, my ardent supporter for all the endeavors that I continuously strive for.

    Dear Kloudiia,

This is a wonderful story…. like its title, indeed it is a simple story, and that’s also the reason why this story is powerful, because many people will be able to relate to it. Not everyone can relate (realistically) to Romeo and Juliet.

Thank you, Henry, for sharing your love story.

    Sunny

    Yeah Sunny. You’re most right.

As I told Henry, it is not the earthquake-like dramas that leave deep impressions in our lives. Simplicity is the utmost pleasures we can have, isn’t it?

Thanks for your smoochie! Do stay tuned for more real life love stories to come … ^_^
