True Love Stories 1: Story #8 (Bonus!)
01 Dec 2006
The bonus issue! I got this late submission for this project. Well, never one to reject a beautiful love story, I’d like to thank Miss Emma for her generous contribution even though she’d missed the chance to win the prize.
Thank you!
“It Begins With Another Attachment …” – Emma from Singapore

Emma absolutely hated going to GWC for her work attachment. After all, she had gotten into the company of her first choice, only to find it being closed down. Hence she was posted to another job that was not her specialization.
Flashback to two weeks ago.
Her work attachment supervisor in her college was furious because failing to find another company to take her in might mean delaying her graduation by one whole term.
After two weeks of waiting, she received a phone call on the news that she was posted to GWC. “GWC? I don’t know anyone there,” Emma thought.
Before she started work, she received a SMS (Note: text message) from her buddy, Kenny. It read: “I have arranged for a friend to take care of you in your six months stint in GWC. Cheers!”
On her first day, no one in the company spoke to her at all or greeted her, and soon she realized that she was the only female work attachment student there. Lunch time came. Kai, Kenny’s friend, along with four other guys came and asked her out for lunch.
Emma exchanged greetings with the four guys and she found out that all four all them were attached. “Hmm…” she thought, “good then. No funny ideas!”
As time went on, fate seemed to play a cruel trick on her. She became quite close to one of the guys, Kehn. Alas, she would cry herself to sleep every night upon thinking that she had no chance at all and she wasn’t going to cause Kehn to break up with his girlfriend.
Six months passed quickly and soon all five of them returned to school. Now they would do projects or study together since they had a wonderful time working at GWC. All this while, Emma has not gotten over Kehn. And, she was just so amazed at the lengths Kehn would go to for his girlfriend.
He helped her type her thesis and even, on several occasions, drove her home from the laboratory at 3 A.M during her final year. Every day, Emma told herself to just give him up. She would be contented to only be Kehn’s good friend.
The unexpected twist came right before their exams. Kehn’s girl friend had actually two-timed him! Although Kehn was very sad, he didn’t allow himself to wallow in depression. He continued to study very hard; many times he would study from night until the next morning in the school’s reading room. His nocturnal habits caused him to miss many lessons before the exams. Emma would photocopy the notes and take down tips from the lecturers for Kehn.
After the final exams were over, Kehn invited Emma to the now defunct Compass Rose restaurant (Note: this was a high-class fine dining restaurant situated at the 72nd storey in a hotel in the central of Singapore) for a meal. He then told her that he knew that she liked him all along and he asked her out not because of the help she rendered him but because he likes her too. They got together from that evening onwards.
Kloudiia: This truly marks the end of this Love Stories Writing Project 1: When I First Fell In Love With You … series. I would like to give a very big thank you once again to all of you who had submitted your love stories. You have made a difference to other people’s lives, if not too many others, at least mine. I believe too that as you are writing your own love story, you would have also made a difference to your own love life.
Therefore, thank you. :)
Will I have another series? Stay tuned to find out more …
