What A Cross Represents

2nd Cross

Look! This is my second cross I’ve received. If you remember, I got my first one on the day of my Rite of Acceptance two months ago. This cross represents much more than just a piece of accessory, because it is a gift from my mum, for my birthday!

Perhaps you will get a bettr picture of why am I so touched when I got this from her after you know that she’s a Buddhist, and a very devout one at that. When she first got news that me and my sister are going for the RCIA, and a high possibility of baptising as Catholic next Easter, she was, well, disappointed.

Worries captured her as well, as she started to ‘forecast’ the adjustments we will be making to align with our religious beliefs. However, she soon overcame these worries as we reassured her they are absolutely unfounded, because one of the core teachings in Catholism is Love.

We explained to her what have been taught, on the faith, the beliefs and the doctrines. Most importantly, we still respect her religion and we let her know that, verbally as well as through our behaviours. We let her understand that the change in my religious faith does not push us further, in fact, it brings us closer in the bond and tie between us.

Henceforth, the minute I saw my birthday gift, you should witness the astonished look I had! The warm feeling is my heart is unforgettable, because this is no ordinary gift. It represents something so much more. Her final understanding towards our new faith brought us much relief, joy and happiness.

Events take place every minute every day. Sometimes, we say certain things that shouldn’t be said, or we did some things that may not be approved by others. This only means we are not on the same platform, yet. It doesn’t imply that we will never be on the same page! All it takes is patience to explain, love to accomodate and faith to believe that all will be well. Because underlying that different opinions could well be the same positive intention. It just takes more time to find out.

hey Kloudiia, Happy Belated Birthday ! (Over already ?) I was thinking about the same thing when I knew about your mum. I am glad to hear that your family overcome the ‘adjustments’ so quickly. =)It took more than 10 years in mine.

Thanks thanks Bren. It’s not over yet..this is an advanced gift… ;)

Well, regardless of how long it took, so long as the acceptance is there and harmony achieved, it’s still cause for joy, isn’t it?
